📢 Geneva, 28 April 2025 —Justice pour Tous Internationale (JPTi) is pleased to announce that on 13 March 2025, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bremen officially terminated the politically motivated and unjust criminal proceedings against Ms. Alena Bekker, German entrepreneur and founder of Texforum-Interhandel e.K.
Ms. Bekker’s case stemmed from the arbitrary reclassification of flax-based briquettes as "woody products," leading to improper sanctions enforcement under the EU sanctions regime against Belarus. She faced the risk of criminal conviction, confiscation of assets, reputational destruction, and up to five years of imprisonment.
Thanks to an intense international advocacy campaign led by JPTi — including filings to the United Nations Special Procedures and strategic engagements across Geneva — the proceedings were closed without any finding of guilt. Ms. Bekker’s full presumption of innocence remains intact, and no criminal record was entered.
We particularly express profound gratitude to:
Professor Alena Douhan, UN Special Rapporteur on the Negative Impact of Unilateral Coercive Measures;
Member of the Bundestag Mr. Eugen Schmidt (AfD);
Ms. Bekker’s courageous legal counsel, Dr. Michael Adam of Schoor & Kollegen, who defended her fundamental rights against overwhelming political pressures.
Despite systemic obstacles, Ms. Bekker stood resilient, becoming a global symbol of entrepreneurial courage against arbitrary state action.
JPTi reaffirms its call for:
Full compensation for the financial and moral damages inflicted upon Ms. Bekker;
Systemic reforms to ensure protection of entrepreneurs’ rights internationally;
The urgent establishment of a United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Entrepreneurs.
