IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT UPHOLDING RIGHTS OF SMEs IN GERMANY

Updated: Dec 7, 2024

On 3 May 2024, Justice pour Tous Internationale sent a follow-up letter to Ambassador Katharina Stasch, Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN, regarding the case of German entrepreneur Alena Bekker, who faces challenges due to EU sanctions enforcement. The letter emphasised the arbitrary nature of the sanctions against Ms. Bekker, urging German authorities to reconsider charges in line with international human rights standards. It also advocated for a revision of the EU sanctions framework to ensure fairness and legal certainty. The communication highlighted EU Directive 2024/1226, which addresses the criminalization of minor sanctions violations and stresses the presumption of innocence and due process.
