The letter emphasised the arbitrary nature of the sanctions against Ms. Bekker, urging German authorities to reconsider charges in line with international human rights standards. It also advocated for a revision of the EU sanctions framework to ensure fairness and legal certainty. The communication highlighted EU Directive 2024/1226, which addresses the criminalization of minor sanctions violations and stresses the presumption of innocence and due process.
