On 8 April 2025, JPTi had the honour of participating in the international conference marking 45 Years of Civic Defense in Lazio

Our Executive Director, Sharof Azizov, delivered a keynote statement addressing the abuse of state security legislation and the indispensable role of Ombudsman institutions in safeguarding fundamental rights. Drawing upon JPTi’s extensive work before UN mechanisms, the statement underscored the importance of independent oversight bodies, operating in line with the Paris Principles, and supported by GANHRI, in preventing the misuse of national security laws to silence dissent.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Hon. Marino Fardelli, Ombudsman of the Lazio Region and President of the Coordination of Italian Ombudsmen, for his exemplary leadership and kind invitation.
