Combating Corruption: Repatriation of Illicit Funds in Uzbekistan
Gulnara Karimova’s case, involving the repatriation of billions in illicit assets, highlighted the challenge of ensuring that recovered funds benefit the people.
Our Actions
JPTi actively participated in expert meetings at the Palais des Nations and collaborated with the UN Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights to advocate for transparent allocation of repatriated funds. We pushed for the funds to be used to empower local civil society and support sustainable development.
Resolution
Our efforts helped shape the allocation framework of the Uzbekistan Vision SDGs 2030 UN Trust Fund, ensuring that the repatriated assets are used for social good and contribute to meaningful reforms in governance and anti-corruption.
