Defending Child Rights: Germany’s Foster Care System
Systemic issues within Germany’s Youth Welfare Offices (Jugendamt) revealed a bias toward foster care placements over family reunification, often without adequate evidence. This resulted in significant emotional distress for affected families.
Our Actions
By submitting shadow reports to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and participating in UN sessions, JPTi advocated for policy changes to prioritize the best interests of the child. We pushed for transparent legal processes that align with international child protection standards.
Resolution
Our persistent advocacy led to increased attention from both the German public and policymakers, setting the stage for potential reforms in child welfare policies to ensure the rights of children are fully protected.
