ALLEGED ABUSE OF STATE SECURITY LAWS, WEAPONIZATION OF JUDICIARY, AND IMPOSITION OF DEATH PENALTY IN QATAR

JPTi announces its latest submission to the United Nations Special Procedures Mandate Holders concerning serious allegations against the State of Qatar involving the misuse of state security laws and judicial mechanisms. The case addresses the severe judicial persecution faced by Mr. Tayeb Benabderrahmane, a French-Algerian entrepreneur and whistleblower, who was sentenced to death in absentia following disclosures regarding alleged financial irregularities linked to Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup.

JPTi’s submission highlights that the actions against Mr. Benabderrahmane—including arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, torture, asset seizure, judicial manipulation, and ultimately the imposition of a politically motivated death sentence—represent not only grave violations of international human rights obligations but also a form of Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation (SLAPP). These measures appear deliberately intended to silence whistleblowers and prevent exposure of corruption.
