On 22 April 2025, Justice pour Tous Internationale (JPTi) participated in the webinar hosted by the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (IJL), entitled "Honoring Yom HaShoah in the Shadow of October 7," featuring distinguished speakers, including Adv. Meir Linzen, Prof. Aleksandra Gliszczyńska-Grabias, and keynote speaker Adv. Michal Cotler-Wunsh, Israel’s Special Envoy for Combatting Antisemitism.

During this event, JPTi contributed meaningfully to the discussion by raising forward-looking questions regarding the current geopolitical and normative challenges faced by the State of Israel. In particular, we posed the question whether, given the historical origins of Zionism—which in its early stages included secular and even atheistic visions of Jewish self-determination—it would be both wise and timely for the State of Israel to consider a transformation into a more explicitly secular and inclusive polity.
We invited reflection on whether the adoption of a comprehensive law on equality, accompanied by robust anti-discrimination legislation with a pronounced emphasis on combating all forms and manifestations of antisemitism, could serve as a constructive and credible step toward addressing both internal inequalities and external criticisms. Moreover, we questioned whether such legal and institutional reforms, aimed at expanding civic identity beyond ethnoreligious affiliation, would enhance Israel’s democratic legitimacy and fortify its moral standing in the international community.
JPTi firmly believes that by embracing secular constitutionalism and modern equality standards, including those modeled on the European Union’s legal framework, Israel could simultaneously protect its diverse population and strengthen its position on the international stage. Furthermore, integrating the protection against antisemitism squarely within a broader anti-discrimination agenda would reaffirm its urgency while preventing its politicization. Combating antisemitism must be rooted in the universal commitment to equality before the law, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or national origin, ensuring that such efforts contribute to the broader objective of securing peace, order, and justice for all individuals residing in all territories under the effective control of the State of Israel. Upholding the rule of law and safeguarding fundamental rights across all areas of effective control remains indispensable to reinforcing Israel’s democratic values and fostering genuine stability, reconciliation, and international legitimacy.

We express our sincere gratitude to the IJL for providing such a timely and reflective forum for these critical discussions.
