Justice Pour Tous Internationale (JPTi) will organize an online webinar on 22 May 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 Geneva time / 16:00 to 17:00 Beijing time, dedicated to the issue of the Japanese military “Comfort Women” system during Word War II and the continuing importance of historical truth, accountability, justice, and reparations for survivors.
The webinar will bring together survivors’ advocates, researchers, journalists, human rights experts, and practitioners to discuss the historical and human rights dimensions of the so-called “Comfort Women” system, as well as its continuing relevance to international discussions on conflict-related sexual violence, women’s rights, transitional justice, accountability, and reparations.
The event will provide a platform for reflection on the importance of preserving survivors’ testimonies and historical memory, combating historical denial, distortion, or minimization, and promoting survivor-centred approaches to truth, justice, reparation, memorialisation, effective remedy, and guarantees of non-recurrence for victims, survivors, their families, and affected communities.
The webinar will be moderated by Mr. Sharof Azizov, Executive Director of Justice Pour Tous Internationale. Invited speakers include Ms. Sharon Cabusao-Silva, Executive Director of Lila Pilipina; Ms. Griselda Molemans, investigative reporter and researcher on the “Comfort Women” issue; Ms. Reem Alsalem, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women and Girls; Ms. Angel Williams, Independent Researcher on the “Comfort Women” Issue; and Mr. Mamadi Diakite, Consultant International Expert.
JPTi warmly welcomes civil society representatives, human rights practitioners, academics, researchers, students, diplomats, journalists, media professionals, and all interested participants to join this important discussion. The webinar offers an opportunity to engage with experts and advocates on the continuing relevance of historical justice, survivor-centred accountability, and the prevention of conflict-related sexual violence, while contributing to broader reflection on truth, memory, reparation, memorialisation, and guarantees of non-recurrence.
